Pros and Cons of living in Monaco

Deciding to relocate to Europe means that you are going to be spoilt with choices of where to call your new home. While this is great news; it can leave you feeling a little overwhelmed and not quite sure which is going to be the right choice for you.

If you do need our help to move your personal belongings to Monaco, our team can assist you. In order to help you make the right choice, let's take a closer at Monaco and consider the pros and cons of living in the country.

Pro- It is luxurious

One of the main things that is known about Monaco is the fact that it is luxurious. The general lifestyle and ambience of the entire country is one of luxury and of having the very best of everything in life.

The shops here are amongst the best, the food is out of this world and the entertainment is more than you may usually see elsewhere in the world. Even the events that are held in Monaco are known to be the best in the world, with the Monaco Grand Prix just one example of this.

Con- It can be expensive

It might be amazing to live somewhere that has such a focus on luxury, but this does often come at a price and in the case of Monaco, this is a literal thing. Life in Monaco can be incredibly expensive.

This is not only true for some of life’s add-ins, but also for essential things like food and a place to call your home.

In fact, it is thought to be one of the most expensive places to live in the world, this means that you are going to need to be able to bring in a good wage if you have dreams of calling it your home.

Pro- There are some tax benefits

Whilst the tax situation should not be the main consideration for you when it comes to picking somewhere to live, for many people this is a definite plus point to choosing Monaco over other European locations.

The reason for this is that Monaco does not have an income tax system which means that those who live there do not pay any income tax on the money that they earn. Of course, if you are someone who earns a higher wage, then you are going to appreciate this more than perhaps others might.

Con- It is lacking in space

Compared to other countries out there in Europe, Monaco is considered to be small and this in turn means that it has had to become quite crowded when it comes to places to live. Many people have found that they lack a choice on the type of property that they can rent or buy and are stuck with small apartments in high-rise buildings.

It also means that the properties that are available are less likely to be deemed to be “affordable” and instead could be expensive.

This lack of space even impacts simple things like finding somewhere to park your car, as it may not be easy to locate a space, especially close to where you choose to live.

Pro- The landscape is picture-perfect

Monaco is found on the French Riviera, which is known to be one of the most beautiful locations in the world. This is largely due to the combination of the iconic landscapes that are there.

It is surrounded by not only the French and Italian Alps but also the Mediterranean Sea as well.

Therefore, whether you love the more rugged mountains or the still waters, you are going to find exactly what you are looking for in Monaco.

Con- It is crowded

Along with the lack of space in Monaco for buildings, there is also a lack of space for people. With 39,000 an average population, the country (which is in its own right small) is one of the most densely populated in the entire world.

It is this combination of lack of space and high numbers of people living there, that can lead to Monaco feeling a little crowded at times. This can be even more of an issue when the time comes to welcome the tourists in, which increases the number of people in the country by a considerable amount.

Pro- It is safe

Now we know that everywhere in the world is going to have some kind of level of crime attributed to it, that is just the way of the world. However, one thing to know about Monaco is that this level is much lower than it is in other countries.

The crime rate in Monaco is low, which means that it is a safe place to live and call your home. Not only this but the police force is recognised as being incredibly strong, which means that should anything happen, you know that you are going to get the help that you need.

Con- Jobs are not varied

The job market in Monaco is not considered to be amongst the best in the world, largely because many of the people who choose to call it their home are already wealthy and perhaps working with the celebrity or business world.

However, there are jobs out there that you can apply for, but it is worth noting that these are largely focused on the service industry, which are not always the types of jobs that may suit everyone.

Pro- The basics are high quality

One thing that is for sure when it comes to choosing somewhere to live is that the basics of everyday life are going to need to be as good as possible. This is definitely true for life in Monaco.

There is a high-quality public transport network that makes it easy to get around and it also has a well-recognised education system. The healthcare system is another plus point, and it is available for residents whether they were born in Monaco or not.
